Z refers to Zygarde, it's been his arc after all.
Since we're months away from any physical release of a new game, it's safe to say the arc will end and wrap up nicely, just in time for the next big thing.

Why do people want Z so much? I don't get it.
Who cares what the game is called? Did people really like Zygarde so much that they would get butt hurt by the next game not having him on the cover? I don't understand.
GF said they didn't want to be predictable, and Z was probably the most obvious game that everyone and their mother was expecting, more so than previous examples like Grey, so why the fuck would they make Pokemon Z?
I understand if people want the "fixed" kalos game, the gen 6.5, improved version of X/Y, or whatever, but that can still happen under any other name, it doesn't have to be called Z.
I'm perplexed by the amount of people getting upset over a name.

B2/W2 isn't as big of a mixup as there being no improved new version after the fact though. B2/W2 was definitely a surprise, but functionally they're still just Gray.

Which is sort of my point, what does it matter what these games are called? They could still technically be Z, just called Moon/Sun, we know nothing about them. People need to stop getting their panties in a bunch over it, expecting just a singular entry that has a name that fits in line with the previous two.

Hell it could still be a Gen VII game too but focusing on Zygarde and new Pokemon with a different Kalos or different region altogether.

We have no idea, people need to chill out.

Obviously this confirms Sun being better, as Naruto became Our Lord Seventh and Sasuke hasen't done anything great for anyone.

Because even if Z isn't happening, it would still be a waste to just ignore a marketable legendary like Zygarde. So they came up with all of the anime and side merch Z stuff to make some extra shekels before moving on to Sun and Moon.
