From an ethical standpoint, 4Kids.

TPCi's actors pretty much throw temper tantrums online when they don't get their way, and TPCi have been suing fans now, being unfair at video game VGCs, among all kinds of shit.

Should add 4Kids won the lawsuit for Yu-Gi-Oh against TV Tokyo because the judge deemed what they did to 4Kids "unfair" and Konami later acquired 4Kids' studios, yet are themselves handing Yu-Gi-Oh worse than 4Kids did now under "4KMedia."

The script is not only terribly unfunny, but very often hard to even understand, and is full of strange dialogue that just reeks of old people trying to sound hip.
The voice actors are beyond terrible. Listening to Ash is like nails on a chalkboard. I'd take Veronica's worst over her any day of the week. Almost no one has a voice that's fitting to their age or character, and they can't act to save their lives.

4kids had their shit, but if you think the new dub's even remotely enjoyable in comparison, your opinion's shit.

Stockholm Syndrome made 4Kids look better in hindsight but it was just as shitty. Also, TPCi was more or less instructed by 4Kids about how to go about dubbing the series if that counts for anything.

Explain how Satoshi talks in slang all the time or Rocket-Dan use alliterating and rhymes all the time. Or how Takeshi rhymes when he flirts with women, or how Masato thinks "those fightin' type Polka-mon sure know how ta fight," or how Haruka thinks "Satoshi is workin' it so hard," etc.

I'm waiting...please answer. Oh wait, they aren't, they're just as bad in that regard and worse in every other respect like you said.

4kids had the best voices and dialogue. If a joke didn't work because it's a Japanese cultural thing or a word pun, 4kids made it into a joke that was atleast attempting to be funny (or was really funny). Team Rocket was also much more bearable, they were more like stereotypical cartoony villains but in a good way.

Team Rocket from TPCi are just two adults who are these parents who try to talk hip and cool but fail and that doesn't work for Team Rocket. Tom Wayland has said it's because Team Rocket is actually really boring so they wanted to spice up things, but this doesn't work.

The insane amount of music replacements of TPCi is also getting rediculous. I mean I know 4kids tended to go too far as well, but atleast they tried to fit the mood.

Also the voices, while kids won't mind I guess, are unbearable. They can't act and really hit the emotion as well (which is what 4kids was able to pull off). I mean Jessie is kind of okay because she atleast tries to sound like her 4kids counterpart and Ash really tries, he really does. But James, Meowth, N and the voices of some Pokémon are inexcusable (Chimchar, Piplup, ...)

Really for some reason, the only current voices that stand out to me, are Bonnie and Shauna. Bonnie because she really tries to perform like her Japanese counterpart (not as cute, but still like a little girl) and Shauna just sounds like this really sweet friend.

Original will always be better though.

If 4Kids was really involved, you would be seeing paint edits sploshed around during BF's dub, which they weren't.

Anything and everything TPCi has dubbed is their own goddamn mistakes, literally pushing blame to 4Kids of all people is laughable at best.

In terms of quality, 4kids was better. Even though they edited & censored stuff just for the sake of giving the video editors work, the voice acting was great and the lines weren't 100% direct translations of the original dub.

TPCi's voice actors are jarringly wooden and the dialogue is cringeworthy.

Surprisingly, 4Kids.

In a similar fashion to what happened with the DragonBall Z dub back in the day, the more censored and far more "reversioned" dub (4Kids for Pokemon, Saban/Ocean cast for DBZ) was better simply because the studio used legitimate professional VAs for their cast while the newer dub (which was just as unfaithful to the original version) used low end VAs and literal ADR directors to fill in and do bad imitations of the voices people liked.

Also, 4Kids does a good job at localizing their shows without compromising the spirit of the series, unlike FUNimation did then, so 4Kids' Pokemon dub is literally the best anime dub of that era.

TPCi is able to license its own music without having to pay the license fees for the original music to the companies in Japan involved in its creation. This way they make an insane amount of money because more of Cartoon Network's money goes into TPCi's wallet and not Japan's.

Dragon Ball Z did the same thing, first because FUNi was a new studio and could only borrow Hanna Barbera sounds. and then because they learned they could make enough money to set them up for a decade

The replacement VA's do suck but I guess most of the other voices are fine.

I really liked Emily Bauer's Dawn. That's probably the best casting choice they ever made since they took over. I can't unhear her voice for Dawn whenever I play Platinum.

For example:

Sawyer sounding like a 40 year old man is not fine.

Cameron sounding like a 30 year old stoner is not fine.

Clemont sounding like an adult man bored out of his life is not fine.

Serena sounding like an adult woman bored out of her life is not fine.

And anything having to with dub Bonnie is cancerous. Worst casting choice TPCi have made outside of the replacements, easily.

Combine that with TPCi's shitty script + shit music + shit themes + shit errors/edits just like 4Kids did in that regard = Shit dub.
