I went Water for first gen, then just kept going with Fire until the last one.
They just look cool, don't think about it too much.
Excluding Emboar of course, but Gen 5 was a shitshow regarding starters.

Because the fire mons' designs have been absolute shit since Gen II. Fire is my favorite element of the three, but they're also so fucking ugly by the time they fully evolve. Grass has the best track record, desu.

I'm not a loyalist but most of the time I just find the Fire starter's designs to be better
A third Fire/Fighting starter was already a lot plus Emboar is shit and that's why I didn't chose it, and up until the Kalos starters' final stages were revealed I was gonna choose Fennekin, its line was looking pretty good while Chespin and Froakie's looked like shit, but they really fucked up with Delphox and Greninja was dope

That's horseshit and you know it. Water starter loyalists are as nonsensically rampant as Fire ones are. Grass however is generally quieter, but also less populace.

It's because Grass type users get shat on by the entire Pokemon fanbase whenever they say anything.
Chikorita is my favorite line and I think it shits on Cyndaquil and is on par with Totodile but people get all riled up about it for some reason.
