tbqh, Black and White were pretty good for the first game of their gen and they were the second gen on their system, so Sun and Moon being the second gen on the 3DS gives me some hope. X and Y, I forgave because it was their first time transitioning to 3D models.

Let's try and figure out if it's Gen6 or Gen7
I'll list some pros on both sides, share your thoughts, and feel free to add more if you can think of some

Pro Gen6
>Still no Volcanion event
>Still no game focusing on Zygarde, and no complete forme in games
>little/no change in graphics
>Gen6 would be among the shortest otherwise

Pro Gen7
>New pokes, Magiana and that one bird seen in the trailer
>Dual main-games, without any "2"
>Titles hint to theme being something completely different from X/Y

Why I think this:
>G/S are considered Gen 2 even though Kanto is in it and it's a sequel to Kanto. This was because it was set in a new region and had new pokemon.
>BW2 are considered the same Gen as BW despite being sequels because it was just an expanded Unova and didn't include new pokemon.

Personally, I think that if it's based in an expanded Kalos (Southern Kalos for example), then it's Gen 6/6.5 (even if it has new pokemon). If it's a sequel like G/S were, where it's based in a whole new region and is a continuation to X/Y's story, then it should be considered Gen 7 like G/S.

We are fairly certain that there are new pokes, such as the bird, and Magiana, but we don't know

The rest of your comment is just what mostly everyone thinks, my comment was about trying to figure if it is still gen6 or if it's gen7
