As I understand it, when people say gen 6.5 they mean:

>same region as xy or a region connected to it
>story directly relates to xy
>same engine as gen 6
>can trade and battle with gen 6
>but still introduces new pokemon

So basically it's a meaningless meme thrown around by underage newfags who don't know that we already got the exact same kind of game for RBY, and we called it gen 2, not gen 1.5.

Gen 6.5 is if it has new Pokemon and takes place in a new region but there's still two way battle/trade compatibility with XYORAS as long as you aren't using new Pokemon. Not unlike ORAS being compatible with XY as long as you aren't using new megas.
