Purely nostalgia and/or they don't play any other video games. Gen 1 mechanics are fucking terrible. So much is broken and the game is a cakewalk if you know what you're doing at all. That being said, I always get a warm feeling in the front of my brain when I see the graphics and hear the music, so I still enjoy them. Nostalgia is a powerful force.

The games are still fine, but they feel a lot weaker because the mechanics of later games blow them out of the water.

Like a lot of old games, Gen 1 makes its age really apparent, especially when compared to games that streamlined all of its features.
