Did anyone else not realize these were ledges as a kid? I just assumed they were mounds of dirt that could only be jumped over from one side for some inexplicable reason.

Yeah, they just looked like rows of rocks to me.

But since apparently that means the ground behind the ledges is a little higher than the ground in front of the ledges, doesn't that mean you spend almost the entire journey walking uphill? A topographic map of Kanto would look pretty fucked up.

On a similar note, I never picked up on the illusion of depth conveyed by these rooves. I thought all the buildings had these giant, waffle-patterned squares on top of them.

I remember getting Pokemon Red when I was 4 or 5 and not being able to get out of my house for a good 15 minutes. The only video game I had ever played before that was Super Mario Bros and I didn't understand that the mat on the floor was supposed to be the entrance until my mum showed me.

Looking back on it I didn't really know how to read properly either and needed to ask my mum for help a lot. Kind of funny to think that my mum pretty much taught me how to read through Pokemon.

I never got that the thing at the very bottom center of your image was supposed to be a tree.

I still don't know what that wall on your right is supposed to be. They look like barrels but that doesn't make much sense.

I'm surprised I didn't have any problem with any of this when I was a child, I think the only thing I ever got stuck on was using HMs. I didn't know you had to open the menu to use them. I figured it out after a day but it was still weird.
And those white pillar things always confused me with what they are.

For some reason I had this problem when I got to this room leading to the Tin Tower in Silver, for the longest time I didn't realize the pink floor mat was a door

Yeah she would occasionally play on my save file too.

I remember back in Ruby getting upset at her for using my Master Ball on an Absol because she thought it was rare and didn't know you could only get one Master Ball per run.

Other than that she was pretty knowledgeable at video games and would consistently trash me at Mario Kart and Pokemon Stadium minigames.
