One day these kids on the playground had some pokemon cards and were showing me all the cool monsters. I stole a monster guide book from a kid in the trailer park a couple days later. Because I was poor and in state custody, I didn't acquire a game for about 4 years after that when Crystal came out. Still my favorite Pokemon game. Today is my 25th birthday. I am 1/20th finished with a Crystal 251 hack side project I started yesterday.

The play style of pokemon has always just clicked with me.
The blend of adventure and strategy just fit perfectly with me. Maybe a bit to perfectly.

I will continue with Pokemon untill I am physical unable to play. Even beyond the series end, I will continue.

When I was five, I was given a Game Boy and one of those cheap bootleg cartridges with a lot of GB games on them. They had RBY.

My parents may have expressed regret for it but they didn't realize their mistake probably until around White 2 when I started buying my own games.

Come te anche io ho iniziato dal cartone, quel lontano pomeriggio del 2000 quando il mio compagno di classe (avevo 12 anni allora) mi aveva avvertito di questa nuova serie. Ricordo tutti i dubbi che avevo a riguardo, non mi ero mai fatto conquistare facilmente dalle mode.
Ed ora eccomi qui, 16 anni dopo, a giocare con la mia versione Blu appena comprata sull'Eshop.
Il cartone mi ha stufato dopo neanche una stagione, ma il videogioco lo amo ancora

In retrospect, it may have been a bad thing. I had a problem with spending a lot on packs of Pokémon cards, and now it's MTG.

I have no clue what it is, and just watch it with him. It's really, really great, then I see a version of the pokerap a few days later that has Vaporeon appear. I don't remember at all. I don't know why, but I guess I liked the anime since the first episode, and in some commemorative date, I got a Gameboy with Pokemon Silver(because I was too poor to get a gameboy before).
I also remember getting Hype Quest and a chinese bootleg with 36 games that were actually 4.

The gameboy color had just come out, and my mom asked me to help pick a game for my Sister that was getting a GBC for her birthday. My mom had heard Pokemon was really popular and asked if we should get her Red or Blue. I picked Red because I thought Charizard looked slightly cooler than Blastoise. When my sister finally got it (in February), I watched her play over her shoulder for hours. I was totally mesmerized. The only other video games I'd seen had been Mario: 6 gold coins and the TMNT and Paperboy games for NES at my grandpa's house. Pokemon was so incredible to me, and I constantly thought about it. My sister would also let me play sometimes to catch stuff for her, since I knew where to find things from constantly poring over the guidebook she had. The first thing I did in Pokemon was spend forever catching a Pikachu for my sister, and I later did the same thing for a Clefairy. Eventually, my sister got kinda bored with the game and let me play it. I got a gameboy pocket for Christmas that year, and played Red on it all day every day. I remember restarting the game at least a dozen times. I usually beat the Elite 4 after starting a new game every week or two. I've since gone through times of far less interest in the games as my obsession with the series waxes and wanes, but I've always kept up with the new Pokemon. I'm an adult working and living on my own now, and I've gone through lots of change in my life, but Pokemon has always been there.

Silver was the first game I bought with "my own" money. I think I made about half the money from selling lemonade, and had gotten another $20 from birthday/Christmas gifts that I saved for Pokemon.

I don't remember how I got into pokemon but I do remember waiting for Monster Rancher to end every morning so I could watch Pokemon getting Red version for Christmas in '98. That game was like crack for me. It's the reason I got into video games in general.
