In addition to the environmental gimmicks and overall slowness of gen 4 as well as constantly backtracking through the same mountain added up to a game that was extremely tedious. Don't forget about those save times too, there's not a part of gen 4 that wasn't a slog.

Attention spans are literally irrelevant when the entire game was just dull as fuck. I could have the attention span of a saint and even I couldn't bear the wall of drying paint that was gen 4. It doesn't even have a single interesting overworld mechanic, it was just the same shit we saw before but worse.
