I blame myself for not feeling too attached to the game and overall plot at the end but was their really much deep history in Kalos? The immortal king guy felt like he and his story were just kinda there and had little impact. I could be completely wrong and missing a lot of shit though.

The starters are delibird, delibird and delibird. The regional rodent is delibird, the regional bird is delibird, the psuedo is delibird. There are no gyms and only one trainer who is the defacto champion, they use a delibird.

That's what they're doing though. They know that Pokemon has an international following so they're capitalizing on it. That's why they have more brown trainers as well.

Huh? For something based on tokyo it's almost ironic how backwater, underpopulated and inactive it feels, specially compared to the "remote" Hoenn and Sinnoh, that have shit like a space center, devon co, mauville, weather institute, valley windworks, oreburgh mine, jubilife city and sunyshore city. There's nothing going on in Kanto.

Indeed. But it's not like it was modernized or made more Tokyo like in the remakes.

From a in-universe perspective Kanto is like a rural stagnant area where a power plant was abandoned for years and an old graveyard tower was turned into a radio station, instead of building a proper one. The opposite of modernity and technology.

Back before XY were announced, some people (me included) were hoping the next region would be the patch between Johto/kanto and Sinnoh, and that it would further explore the idea of the Sinjoh ruins
They had even recently built a pokecenter there, similar to all the other regions that were the inspiration of games
It could've been neat, but i think france was a better idea, so i'm fine with being wrong

in gen2 it was somewhat subtle
Gen3 was more obvious with a few small bits
Gen4 was also even more obvious with few small bits
Gen5 was more about how modern day uses ancient history
Gen6 was also usage of history, but it was more subtle little details like in gen2

Playing ORAS.
After the 4th badge I'm now with the problem that non of my 4 team pokemon can learn to surf.

I also can't find any pokemon that would fit in my team to catch since I can only fish goldeen and magicarp with the old route.

Any adwise?

Nimbasa is the Theater District and Madison Square Garden, which are right in the middle of Manhattan south of Central Park, which is the High Link area of the game map.

You might as well try to say Nacrene City is supposed to be San Fransisco.

The center was opened in december 2011, and the accident was in march 2011, so maybe they were planning to open it there before the accident
or maybe they just opened it to bring more focus/economic movement to the area, hoping it would help

plus, the only other Pokecenter that's outside any of the in-game regions is in Hiroshima

And there's a desert to the north of Slateport, no one even tried to say the Hoenn desert was supposed to be the crater from the Fat Man implosion bomb.

Fast forward to Gen V where everyone was swearing up and down the Desert in Unova was Ground Zero even though the Twin Towers would have been on the very northernmost tip of Castelia City, citing a Cracked article that referred to Team Plasma as "Team Rocket" as a source.
