Mostly due to Sludge Bomb and Shadow Ball becoming special attacks, I'm perfectly fine with them being special but you can clearly see shit like Poison Jab, Poison Tail, Poison Cross and Shadow Claw, Phantom Force and Shadow Claw cannot compete with the Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave and Shadow Ball base power, distribution and the stats dofference between Attack and Special Attack of said Pokemon.
If you played Gen 3, specifically FRLG aka Poison: the region you'd clearly remember how hard STAB Sludge Bomb hits and how much pressure the eventual Poison status adds, evwn Rocket's Sludge Bomb Houndoom did a lot.
Venusaur, Kanto iconic Poison types including even Tentacruel as physical attacker were pretty decent, Saur and Tenta are still good as mixed and special too.
