Honestly, one of my friends is an ilustrator and he was saying that Charizard has a design to make 6 year old project into it what dragons in all other media represent. Its not Charizard itself being liked, but liking a dragon because its a dragon.
Hell, 12 year olds come to my home all the time to hang with my siblings, and they dont even like Charizard over other fire starters like Blaziken.
Lets be honest, Charizard is push so that it can pander to normies that haven't played pokemon in over 10 years, with nostalgia telling them Charizard is OP. The people who would say "they still make pokemon games?!", and to kids trying to use the "pokemon used to be good" meme
