Game Freak fucked that up with Gen IV.
They overdid regular evos for older Pokemon and got a lot of critic.
So they decided to make no cross Gen evolutions in Gen V and made eviolite a thing.
They got a lot of critic for that too.
And instead giving us just 2-4 cross gen evoltions each gen, they added megas to fuck things up even more.
