They already have several moon rabbits. Hell the moon waifu digimon is a rabbit. With the sun legend being a lion they didn't want to be twinsies.

Not sure why there are so many sun lions in video games in general. Amateratsu isn't a lion, Ra isn't a lion, and Apollo and Helios aren't associated with lions

I kind of wish it WAS a rabbit, or at least something else. A moon bat is super cool, but right after Yveltal kind of sucks.

I guess they wanted an animal that can already resemble the moon phases without forcing a moon motif on it. A rabbit can't position itself to look like the moon.

Yveltal was a great design. For something that's supposed to be the embodiment of death, it could've been a hell of a lot edgier than what we got.
