Night Slash is Tsujigiri, the historical practice of Samurai attacking passerby, usually defenseless, at a crossroads to test out their new sword or style. Often happened at night, though. Making Night Slash an oddly euphemistic translation.
I think the better description is that Dark type is mostly Evil/Asshole type, but Darkness is sometimes folded into that, especially over the years.
