We already have a move literally called "explosion", as well as self-destruct, and other similarly themed moves. Would it really be so hard to add a handful of new mons themed around various explosives?

It could be super-effective against Steel, Rock, and Normal, and be super-affected by Water (acoustic dampening), Poison (contamination of chemicals), and Psychic (defuse the bomb with your MIND).

Just some rough ideas.
