Two big problems, with many sequelae.
1. Terrible and massively underaged userbase.

>Inability to tolerate the existence of other opinions or have any semblance of discussion without immediately devolving into shitflinging
>enough /r9k/ overlap that the word "normie" gets used unironically
>Fetish autism
>huge overlap with reddit
>constant shitposting about tumblr/reddit boogeymen BECAUSE of the huge overlap with reddit
>constant "do I fit in now" tryharding
>such rabid, disproportional Smogon hate that even mentioning the term "OU" has a good chance to derail any thread
>people who think Pokemon games can or should try to have compelling stories
2. Stagnation and lack of new content
>shitposting because literally every aspect of Pokemon has been talked to death
>Terrible fan projects like Scrumptious Calem CYOA and Clover
>Giveaway threads
