A missed opportunity is no following Pokémon in gen 5 or 6, and probably not 7.
It was a great feature, and it makes future games lesser for excluding it.

Your "dream game" that has every feature under the sun would just be a cluttered mess, a huge mishmash of gameplay elements that are in the same game for the sake of being in the same game. Not to mention all the people who would (correctly) call it out on being blatant pandering.

My favourite meme as of late.
HGSS has the best aesthetic in any Pokémon game to date, arguably only FRLG rivals it, which also looks equally fantastic.
