I'm OP and I started with the original Pokemon, ya goof. Gold is my favorite gen out of all of them, but gen 4 had the most lit competitive scene.

GF doesn't know what they are doing so they just throw in all kinds of stupid and gay shit. With Gen4 a lot of the new moves stuck, and there was the split. So smogon made a decent meta somehow.

Online battling was garbage on the gen 4 games, which is what helped simulators get popular back then

Also nostalgia, being the first gen that had online gave people lots of good memories
