Ash's makes Greninja look more like him, but how would that transfer to Sun and Moon? Will Pokemon change to look like our protagonists? But they're clothes, hair, and skin can all be changed via customization, not to mention the two genders.
Without the "looking like the trainer" gimmick then how is Syncro Evolution any different than Mega Evolution?
