X/Y was shit because it was just shit. It was an indicator that Game Freak, despite the promise of Generations 3 through 5, had absolutely no intention of doing anything with Pokemon but pandering to genwunners superficially with meaningless references that miss what few valid complaints that particular branch of fandom has about the games, making the story into a complete non-presence, and making the designs stupidly exaggerated bullshit at the disgusting cartooniness of which even Digimon can only stare in disbelief.
OR/AS look good after X/Y, in my opinion, but it definitely didn't add as much as FR/LG or HG/SS did on top of the original experience. Yeah, I liked the Delta Episode, because I like story-driven material in Pokemon games and Deoxys is my favorite Pokemon, but there's no denying that even it was just putting back some of the extra stuff from Emerald. I'd rather have the Delta Episode than a Battle Frontier if we can only choose one, but I realize I'm probably in the minority there and there's no excuse for not having both. I still like OR/AS better than HG/SS, but while OR/AS was better as a game that's just because the Hoenn games were already better than the Johto ones, and HG/SS does more with the remake aspect, and if you have a more generous view of the Johto games or if you place more importance on it actually being significantly more than a graphical upgrade you'd likely disagree.
