Take a look at the definition of mental disorder,
"A mental disorder (also called a mental illness,[1] psychiatric disorder, or psychological disorder) is a diagnosis, most often by a psychiatrist, of a behavioral or mental pattern that may cause suffering or a poor ability to function in life."
Certainly not being physically attracted to the opposite sex which we are genetically predisposed to like to carry on our genes, would cause a poor ability to function in life.
I'm not saying we treat gay people poorly. We don't treat autistic or depressed people poorly because they have a mental disorder. I'm just saying that we treat it as it is.
