You don't need to devote someone, though. Excadrill doesn't NEED to run Rapid Spin to be viable, but has the option to do so. So do Pokemon like Blastoise or Starmie. Not all teams need hazard removal, but it certainly helps, and widening who can fulfill that roll would make so many more Pokemon viable.

i think a 25% cap on damage would fix them. like volcarona can switch in 4 times. maybe make them for off the ground mons only? like the opposite of spikes with the same max damage cap but only needs to be used once unlike spikes 3. would be a big nerf but still not unuseable.

The other problem is that Smogon Singles is unofficial, and VGC is the meta that Nintendo oversees (and even then it's less balanced than Smogon). Hazards are virtually nonexistent in VGC so they wouldn't see the need in buffing moves that really don't have any use in a Doubles format.

In the same way that Poison Pokemon can absorb Toxic Spikes, something should be able to remove SR on entry.

They now do 20% typeless damage to Flying and Levitiating pokemon upon entry.

That's literally all they ever needed to do but Gamefreak are convinced having this specific entry hazard to type damage so that it trashcans certain typings and breaks others is a good idea.

I guess they're just too obsessed with VGC to realise how absolutely disgusting Stealth Rock is.

Because Charizard is the only pokemon brought down a whole tier by this move alone if there type is weak to rock, two tier for double weakness. Stealth Rocks are so fucking broken, they shouldn't be effective on everything and just murder on rock weak types, they should be negligible on neutral types and then effective, but not a game breaker, on weak types.

Not a bad idea actually.
GameFreak felt like they could make OP Fire and Flying types with Stealth Rocks in the game; but that only really added to the shit storm.
This way we can keep some sort of cap on Charizard X/Y, Talonflame, Volcarona, etc. while not absolutely shitting on Pokemon like Scyther and Ninjask and whoever I'm not thinking of.
