Pretty much this most of the time.

I end up swapping the stats a pokemon is usually know for, just to take extra hits, or do more dmg, when an opponent doesnt expect it.

Making it a special attacker would have set it apart from most Rock-type Mons. Hell its Pokemon Dex entries mentions how it fire's off energy blasts

Why did GameFreak have to fuck up so hard? Its offensive potential would've been endless:
