As a kid, yeah. I liked the idea of all that power, and sweeping everyone with my hard-caught legendary felt like a good way to finish out the game. I thought of the conflict with the legendary as "the end", and the league was just mopping up afterward.
Of course, that makes the games a pretty short ride, so I've stopped doing that now. The last time I did was Ruby, and I had a proper team going through Emerald, and I gotta' say, I had a better time with the latter.
