I actually think this could be it.
With Kukui studying moves and all, and it would be an easy way to shoehorn in an event Ash-Greninja, by making it transform after using whatever synergy move it has.

If they ever added a 5th move I'd want it to be something like a signature move no other pokemon can learn and when the pokemon evolves, if it can evolve the move becomes something else. It also cannot be deleted/changed for a new move

Megas would be rolled into synchro, since they're conceptually so similar.

I expect something more like Synergy Burst from Pokken, especially since the stones in the bracelets look like synergy stones.

It's part of a new feature where a Pokemon can remember a 5th move that can be swapped with its other four moves outside of battle. Mostly useful for HM moves.

If it's Pokken synergy, it'll be a glowing aura around them. Greninja will get its anime form cause it's special.

Maybe Pokemon with megas won't have synergy, but rather mega moves.

But read the screen shot. It's the page that shows stats when you're switching in another pokemon (it literally says 'switch' below the list). It would make sense to show the item if you're gonna show the rest.

Unless a new hm is introduced in SM that is comparable to surf or waterfall in power, not too much except users of those get some more flexibility.
