>>26838786This sort of counts, but I don't think a design like Mega-Metagross would've been possible without 3D. It's got important aspects on all angles, and there's not really a strong, front facing, neutral pose it can make without blocking it's face in some way. All of the official art has it's arms spread apart more than they normally are, and even the official art lacks hardly any focus on the back limbs, which give the entire design a really nice, well rounded sense of weight to it.
