I have one friend who knows Smogon rules, so I play those with him; I have one friend who goes with the "anything goes, but I hate annoying stuff" ruleset (Legendaries = OK, Double Team & Sand Attack = No go) and I have no other friends who play, so no worries. We normally just go with our in-game teams anyway - we all seem to pick 'mons that are half decent, and it just seems to work.
