>>26869112I agree wholeheartedly that they're both doing it to appeal to demographics. The problem is 'so long as the person in question is doing good work' is a statement that really hinges on personal bias.
Trump says women should be paid equally, so long as they're 'doing as good as a job as a man.' Okay, so who decides that? Will he get to sit in on every corporate meeting and judge how 'well' the women are doing? Will he pass legislation that deconstructs gender norms from birth and encourages girls at an early age to start learning about science?
Nah, probably not. Hillary wouldn't either, but her existence as a woman in the oval office would automatically create this idea that women can do more than their current role. This is the 'woman card' and it's a potent force.
Same thing about gays -- it's not enough to be indifferent about them 'so long as they're doing well.' You have to be fighting specifically for their rights.
I think local American politics are a way worse threat to you than Islamic extremists. I think a silent culture of hate naturally seeping into your daily life affects you far more than a gruesome but far more physical and shortsighted terrorist attack.
Then again, I'm a straight-white CIS male who plays Pokemon while living in his rich parent's house. I have probably the least statistical likelihood of dying from any external threat, so I can understand your sentiments.
