Like they've skirted the edge of that, there are some Pokemon that look somewhat like humans, but these are JUST humans in clothes. The designs would have to be abstracted a lot more for it not to be weird.
Like, you could make them all dual bug types and theme the trainers after them or something, so long as they don't have tiny homunculus versions of themselves. That's just wrong.
