The new songs, specially the wild theme, have "MIDI" written all over them.
Even the DS era executed this way better.
I like a lot the tense part, though.

I dunno why, but I like it a lot more now that I can hear it clearly. Sounds great for a trainer theme, reminds me of the more upbeat Gen 1/2 themes.

It's only 'midi' sounding because it has a focused soundstage, and yeah I'll give you that guitar.
Having a soundstage like that, instead of having reverb or heavily layered will allow for some more complex writing to fill in the gaps instead. If they keep this direction, I can't wait to see how crazy the Legendary themes get.

Which actually brings up a good point. Who else noticed that Gen 6 has low as fuck volume? What is with GameFreak and not turning up their soundtrack? Though in the case of XY's boring as hell tracks, don't bother.

I noticed for XY. And it was annoying too since I would switch from other games and easily notice the change in volume, making me think that I hit the volume slider on the side by accident.

Didn't they turn it up for ORAS though? Haven't played it since 2014 so I don't quite remember.

I was waiting for a thread that comments on the Trainer Battle Theme. It's glorious! My faith in the OST recovered after watching that trailer. And it helps me to forget how terrible the Wild Pokemon Battle Theme is.

Well Gen 5 did it well but gen 4 was to shitty synths what gen 3 was to trumpets.

It didn't help that overall it sounded way too peaceful for a game about adventure. Overall it lacked that oomph.

I guessed 209 before I even clicked it. You're not the first anon to try and convince me. I hate the screechiness of route 209, and it just feels... not right to me. I hate listening to it. I hate Jubilife city's theme because it's just so irregular, it makes me feel sick listening to it. Same with Eterna city. And Cynthia's battle theme is well orchestrated, I guess, but I have the same complaints as the others. I mean, I don't hate on others for disagreeing with me, but I just can't stand it.

209 and Jubilife are one of the all time best route and town music tracks in any pokemon game ever man. At least for me.

Jubilife is in second place with Accumula in first and Safari Zone Gate in third.
