>>26949674The internet was a much more chaotic place back then. It was very hard to tell what was and wasn't a reliable source. Nowadays, for example, if you want to look into the exact mechanics of a super nintendo game, you know where to look for people who have datamined the fuck out of it. If you want something translated, you know where to find people who can. If you wanted to know some obscure piece of cartoon trivia, there are plenty of sources that you can cross-reference. Back then, it was much, much harder. That's why there were so many silly rumors during that era.
We've kind of got the internet streamlined down to a science though. (Granted, it's not perfect. One of my favorite examples is tipping in XY. Although the game's been datamined and 100% confirmed not to do anything outside of getting you the medal on the website, people here will still insist it gives style points whenever the subject comes up)
