I'll be honest with you, I love Xatu, but until ORAS he was a pain in the fucking ass to actually use in-game. His level-up learnset was hot garbage, forcing the player to basically put up with Nightshade/Ominous Wind or Physical moves in order to do any damage because it took that long for them to give it Air Slash and reduce the level it learns Psychic at from 66 (!) to 35. You were completely reliant on TMs in order to salvage the damn thing, and most of the time I found myself having to immediately switch the poor guy out or risk having him faint time and time again.

Then you could dump the Psychic TM on him once you got to Kanto and he'd pull his weight until the end. Course, things are better now and he was a pretty strong team member in AS

I used him in gen v as an alternate to Espeon for hazard blocking and walling. Going full defensive while roosting and spreading thunder wave while U-Turning out to my sweepers helped out a lot.
