I looked it up after asking. Turns out they stopped taking submissions last September, so almost a year ago.

Meaning if you live in the middle of nowhere, the app is worthless after all your Pokéballs run out, unless there's some daily "hey you're out of balls here's a few to keep you going" thing.

The only downside to all of this is the fact that there's reds everywhere stacking on the gyms. Have my work cut out for me if I want to try and steal shit.

Live deep in a rural neighborhood off of a highway. Plenty of pokemon around, but almost no stops. The stops and gym near me are right at the entrance of the neighborhood. Have to drive 8 minutes from my house up to the church at the entrance of the neighborhood that is a pokestop. Other pokestop nearby is a sign right at the edge of the road beside the highway and a another sign that is a gym across the highway.

That's american suburb isn't it?
I live in the suburb too. Ours has a pretty bad reputation as a ghetto. Luckily some of them want to give some positive impressions, so they arranged a few mulars here and there.
Around my place are 4 pokestops and one gym as a mular now.

I wish I bothered with Ingress beforehand. Everything is the historical downtown and us on the other half of the city got a church thats a 10 minute walk for me and a water tower that I would have to drive to.

I can't wait for uni to start back up so I have an excuse to drive into the actual city.

How does the game decide which place will be a pokestop?

I think they get the locations for the gyms based on ingress' portals, this is pretty much a fact actually. But when it comes to pokestops I can't say which factor they use to set its locations.

Any ideas?

in my town the freaking water tower is a stop, so is the post office, veterans monument, rail station and a small monument

should state for anyone else in japan that this game doesnt seem to be working inside of japan yet.

you can get in and walk around but you wont see anything on the map ever.

like 70% of the pokestops here are churches, and I've been wondering if I could have my church made into a pokestop too. I feel bad for my pastor since our church is pretty damn empty, it'd be nice for the place to get visitors. That, and I'd be able to get loads of pokestop items since I'm there for hours every Sunday, would be pretty damn convenient.

The fountain in front of my old High School is a pokestop. It made me a bit nostalgic, because it's not just the place where I went to with High School but it's a place I pretty much pass every single day since I was small

Can someone explain to me how pokemon encounters work?

I've been walking all day and I see a bunch of 'nearby' pokemon but I haven't run into that many. Are the pokemon in certain specific spots that aren't told and I just have to hope I'm lucky enough to run into them, or is there just a random chance that one will pop up as I walk?
