For a faker to make it up, it's a huge paragdim shift, and something people will doubt.
But for GF to do it? Total sense. Why? They no longer act as extended tutorials in type advantages. The UI teaches those now. Beating a gym leader with a specific type is now a lot more trivial to the newer player than it used to be.
Which obviously leads into scrapping the gym system all together, and doing shaking it up.
I for one am excited to see what happens instead.
Also, it would make sense for Ash to win the league in the anime if he's not going to be doing a gym challenge in the next anime series. He only needs to keep losing while plot demands he try again
