I've caught around 650 total pokemon and 89 unique. It's really popular here and I've spent most of my time on it.
Don't use your stardust, until you have mons over 1000 from evolution and catching. You'll regret it.
Don't waste it on pleb tier eevee's.
Don't catch zubats past level 12. They're annoying and dodge often, wasting your balls.
Catch common bug types and evolve them often for 500 xp. They usually evolve around 12 and there's always plenty.
Follow lures, don't waste your own. Use lucky eggs in combo with other lures/incense.
Talk to people and see what they've caught in your area recently, maybe you can track it down too
