It's been one year since Iwata passed away.
Iwata worked with Masuda and the team at Game Freak to save storage space in order to fit more content into Pokemon Gold and Silver. That content being the entire Kanto region.

>Do you know what you have just done!?
>You took your first step on Kanto!

Think of the smiles on children's faces when they heard this.
The Kanto region, where they had taken their first Pokemon journey, was now spread out for them to take a whole new journey in.
If it wasn't for Iwata, this moment would never have happened.
You would never have been able to see all of the Gym Leaders you'd fought before. Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, Erika, Sabrina, and even old Blaine.
You'd never giggle while interrupting Misty's date.
You'd never be shocked to see Koga in the Elite Four, with his daughter taking his place at the Fuschia City Gym.
You'd never be horrified to see Cinnabar Island reduced to almost nothing from a volcano, with the fiery Blaine's gym relocated to the Seafoam Islands, the place you knew was full of ice.
You'd never be surprised to see Blue, your former rival, take Giovanni's place at the Viridian Gym, with his mixed bag team to throw you off.
You'd never climb up the foreboding Mt. Silver, only to come face to face with the character you played as before, still as silent as ever, ready to take you on in your final challenge.
None of this would have been possible without Iwata.
