Pokemon Go is a free app that targets nostalgia and acts as an ad for actual Pokemon games. Actual Pokemon games are much too big to work on the average phone, need buttons and are for consoles. Nintendo, TPCi and Game Freak make money from the Pokemon series and the games are to themselves. Pokemon Go is a separate thing and putting everything from the actual game into a free app literally makes the core game series worthless.
The social aspect exists in the actual games too. Not sure why you would make it a distinction regarding Go. Trading and battling your friends was the big appeal of Pokemon originally and it's sort of the entire idea behind the entire franchise; kid adventures, makes friends [pokemon/npcs] along the way - kid playing game needs to adventure and make real friends to finish his Pokemon collection.
