If you do not know it is supposed to be based on a mascot, then the resulting critique will not be able to accurately point out what parts of its designs are flaws and what parts should remain the same. For example: without that context, its blank expression would be seen as a flaw, rather than an intended and even necessary part of its concept.
Any redesigns that attempt to improve upon this flawed design should take that concept into account, rather than discarding that concept entirely.
