Starting up this bad boy. I haven't played it since it was released. What starter should I go with? Team suggestions? Anything else I need to know?

I havent played this guy in like years, but try doing lots of pokemon rotation, it tends to be fun to have variety in your team instead of sticking of the same 6 all game, also, don't catch a fucking meditite, it doesn't learn anything good for like 30 levels. Learned it the hard way.

Turtwig is my favorite starter to go with, but all of them are good. Earthquake right at evolving into Torterra with immediate access to wood hammer via move tutor is great too. Other than that, I'd recommend Rotom. It's fun to use, has a good movepool right when you get it, and a great typing and is available right after the second gym.

get Chimchar because unless you want a Ponyta it's pretty much the only fire-type available, at least until you can get Magmar but I think that's pretty late in the game

I played so much gen 4 and 3 I don't think I can stomach going through these again.

I could barely tolerate going through ORAS routes, it needed more changes on map design or just general stuff happening before post game.

Also I recommend getting a Pokemon with Own Tempo (Lickitung) or Inner Focus (Zubat, Abra, Girafarig, Riolu) because the amount of Pokemon that have Confuse Ray, etc. or a flinching move that somehow works 101% of the time is fucking ridiculous in Platinum.

My bros for Platinum are Torterra, Gallade, Luxray, Staraptor, Gastrodon, and Houndoom (yeah he's Gen II but I never used him before.)

Try one of them if you haven't. Gastrodon wrecked Cynthia's Garchomp with Ive Beam and Nevermeltice last time I played. If none of them interest you, try some of my new team: Infernape, Magnezone, Weavile, Rhyperior, Roserade, and Floatzel
