I have played every generation and have owned Blue, Yellow, Stadium, Silver, Crystal, Stadium 2, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf Green, Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Soul Silver, Battle Revolution, White, White 2, X and Omega Ruby at one time or another. I have beaten them all at least once each. Most of the handhelds I went through more than once or played for hundreds of hours.
Black 2/White 2 are just flat-out the best games.
XY and ORAS are better in some ways, sure, but as a base experience BW2 stands above the rest.
I grew up as a pre-teen in Pokemania. I have nothing against gen 1 at all. I bought Yellow on the virtual console so that I could restart it over and over and play it many times. It's just such a satisfying experience, as flawed as it is. The music is especially fantastic.
