That isn't controversial.

ORAS was better, but gets judged more harshly because it hit our childhood almost as hard as the Delta Episode's meteor would have. ORAS let a little cube of charcoal roll down its pant leg, which fell into the Running Shoes we got in RSE. X and Y just shat their own pants, even if they shat more outright, the damage was contained to the X and Y underpants.

All of that is true, but Rescue Team should still get props for the Post Game. Almost every dungeon had a mini-story attached, whether the Eon twins, or Lobre almost drowning in Kyogre's dungeon, or the quick little scene before you got access to the Silver Trench. Later games, especially Super, could have learned a thing or two from this.

I prefer ORAS to Emerald.
I have no problems with speed in 4th gen games.
Meganium is my favourite starter.
5th gen starters are my second favourite set of starters.
I like concept of baby Pokemon but I'm tired of mega Pokemon.
I prefer having shitton of legendaries (4th/5th gen) than very little amount of legendaries (1th/6th gen).
And the most controversial: I actually like every main Pokemon game.

I think the more contreversal opinion around here is that XY was more fresh and innovative than ORAS could have ever been.
That's just my opinion though. Both games have the pitfall of being too easy, but at least XY brought a lot of new things ascetically to the table. ORAS was just the same thing, old location, and almost put me to sleep.
Then again, I played Sapphire for like, 150 hours through my teen years, so I'm probably just tired of Honnen in general.

Gen 4's starters are the best, look-wise and game-wise.
Gen 2's starters are all bland and terrible.
BW2 are the best in the series.
HGSS was just ok.
Sinnoh is the best region.
EXP Share in Gen 6 is really cool and I hope it returns.

Actually, I think Arceus was a good thing, albeit in an odd way.

Since gen 1, Pokemon kept one-upping itself with the new, most powerful pokemon. Look back at, say, Lugia. Lugia is nothing special now, it got out "most powerfull'd" by Groudon and Kyogre, who got outdone by Fug, who got topped by Palkia and Dialga. Arceus was GF saying "fuck that noise", throwing up their hands and saying "There, here's God. Nothing we ever do will be more powerful conceptually, so now we can focus on more interesting features for legendaries."

Arceus is kinda meh in itself, but for the series it was a powerful statement.

I think they both had pretty flat, shallow characters.
Both got on my nerves though, because both had NPCs constantly interrupt and take control of the player just to waste the player's time and give you pointless, forgettable information.

Gen 6 had the best overworld. Kalos is both huge and has very few areas that feel extraneous. It's quite beautiful as well. Meanwhile, Hoenn felt like an actual landmass and was a ton of fun to get lost in.

Gen II sucked. Bad Pokemon, horrific level progression, half if Johto's routes are stubs and Kanto's been thoroughlt neutered, and the story is very meh. HGSS did fix some of this, but not the level curve, which drags the whole experience down.

Fairies are a great addition, due in no small part in giving Poison, one of my favorite types, something to do. Megas kinda suck, though, and should be thoroughly retooled in Sun and Moon.

Platinum is barely better than DP which was already fine. There's actually some minor things I like more in DP related to presentation. If it had Platinum's regional dex and encounterable Pokemon but otherwise was the same I'd play Pearl over Platinum any day.

I think Arceus' execution was the mistake, if anything. It should have been absurd and uncatchable, or had something in the lore explaining that the one you can battle and own is just a speck of its power, something along the lines of, "See this? We may top it stat wise one day. It won't care because it knows nothing can stand up to its full strength"
