Gen 1 and Gen 3 have the best starters in the series, and them being the only ones to get Megas proves this.

Because Genwun starters are the first set and everyone's familiar with them. 3 because the remakes. Mega Blaziken came before the remakes of course but they were obviously in production already.

Gen 3's final evolutions are fucking hideous. Actually, I find most starters' final stages after gen 2 to be pretty ugly except for Infernape and Serperior. It's a shame because the first stage designs are still solid for the most part.
