I don0t think there will be a successor. If there would be one we would at least have hear rumors about already. Everyone has smartphones nowadyas and the 3ds is the worst N¡intendo hansheld in sales The NX or Mobile

Well, Pokemon games take up 2 gigapits. That's way to much for a mobile phone. That's basically half the space of the phone. Main games will probably move to nx.

We are not getting a remake any time soon.
Until the a system comes out that does not play 3ds games.
If anything this gen's remake will be Z or XY2

3ds games are way better quality than phone games. If mainline Pokemon games switched to mobile, they would have microtransactions and lag. I would probably quit Pokemon. Anyways There is a rumor that the nx will have some portable aspect to it. It would make since for the mainline games.

to me, the real problem is language. coming from C/C++ on a owned hardware to a java mashup which must work on everything may be a lot of extra work.

plus the controls... I hate mobile games, even more from a dev standpoint.

3DS successor is guaranteed and it's going to be on that if they decide to remake it. And that's a big if now that they have VC because they can just slap it on that and churn out a new Pokemon game because new games sell more than remakes.

The NX is a home console and we'll never get a proper Pokemon game on it.
Mobile isn't an option.
