I think this change destroys some impressively complex gameplay and makes the game a lot more shallow. I think breeding is tedious as fuck and I've never done it, but I'm glad that people were able to improve their pokemon through hard work and incredible knowledge of the game's deepest mechanics.

Hopefully the way to get bottlecaps has enough gameplay that it's more of an alternate route to getting a perfect pokemon than a way for any nugget who picks up the game to be able to min max. As a former WoW player, streaming may look neat and be cool in the short term, but it can add up and leave the game as an empty shell of itself. Unlike WoW though, pokemon doesn't rely as hard on RPG mechanics to build up the gameplay, so while I'm a bit dissapointed about this change, I'm completely okay with it.

That being said the guy in the video you posted is a complete fucking nugget pissing about nothing for eleven minutes. It's reactionary nonsense with no real substance. Here's some nice chickens.

Literally no "legitimate player" would turn down fixing IVs. "Legitimate players" know just how long breeding takes.

I've been breeding for competitive Pokemon since Gen IV. I've bred two perfect Pokemon out of around forty prior to Gen VI, and sunk hundreds of hours into the process. I learned how to RNG manipulate to get special Pokemon like Cotton Guard Banette and HP Fighting Beheeyem. I rejoiced when Gen VI came around (hell, I rejoiced over B2W2's breeding upgrades) and now I'm ecstatic because of hyper training.

Verlis has been around since the beginning of Gen VI. He doesn't know what hell breeding was before this gen. His furry ass needs to shut the fuck up.

It has potential to remove the breeding scene, which I've always found impressive as it was a hobby inside a video game and required complex knowledge.

The only part of the breeding scene it removes is the Egg Lottery. You'll still have to jump through hoops to get the right moves on the child, you just won't have to hatch an egg thousands of times to get the right IVs.

Well, breeding isn't completely dead, you still need egg moves on some Pokemon, and in some cases it makes getting hidden abilities with the right nature easier too. It just simply means that you can level grind instead of waiting for that 5-6 IV that you'll need to level grind anyways.

You all are saying "wow he's actually mad you don't have to do as much work" but I feel like the root of the matter is just in how Pokemon works.

Before IV and EV was common knowledge, the dream was breeding strong or special Pokemon ala the anime, or just the concept of having monsters of different species battling and mating on the side. Like if you ever played Monster Rancher before you knew what the internet was, you took out all yours and your parents' dumb fucking CDs to see what you could get.

IVs are supposed to be a representation of natural inborn talent. They're supposed to help define the Pokemon and give meaning to breeding. Hyper training pretty much acknowledges that breeding is a huge waste of time and that nobody should bother doing it anymore. But I think the saddest thing that can be said about it is that the concept of breeding can never be done right in a video game. It'll always be about the numbers, and effort will always be dashed by alternate methods.

You have to be level 100 to even Hyper Train in the first place, which pretty much means your pokemon has already reached its maximum potential through training. 'Hyper' training implies that your Pokemon is going through an even more intense training where it pushes beyond it's predetermined limits (ivs) and maximizes those as well.
It's more rewarding to actually train your pokemon in battles till they reach level 100, rather than running around in circles to play the lottery.
Breeding will still be alive early on in the game due to breeding for nature, egg moves and gender, as well as trading breedjects.

-Synergy trait that affects them during double battles based on their parents egg/group (Parent was in x egg group so it gets along well when partnered with mons from that egg group)

Eitherways when it all comes to competitive play, some mechanics that would be considered to create a 'unique experience' will just end up being arbitrary RNG that gets in the way of the perfect battle ready mon.

I was also thinking that if they can make Pokemon Contests (or some other form) legitimate or decent, it could also legitimize breeding. If you make a separate stage of battle that is for autistic breeders, I feel like everybody wins in that sort of scenario.

Autistic breeding for competitive battle play was always a mistake. People want to get in the action and play with their team, preferably the ones they've been running to beat the main game, and actually stand a chance. That's the essence of the series. I don't think anybody likes the idea of making baby boxes, culling the weak, stuffing parents in a corner, and only using the one perfectly RNG generated Pokemon to make 1/6th of your team. It's a ridiculous chore, and doesn't support the feeling of the series at all. Hyper Training flips that on its head and lets you make a battle-ready mon from what you've been running, or the first guy you catch on a hunt-- all the sentiment and memories intact.

If there was maybe a tiered competitive structure tailored for autistic breeders, I feel like that could be a good thing that everyone can benefit from. Even something as simple as aesthetic variation could make people battling feel good about breeding and enjoy the RNG, instead of trying to game the RNG into making a perfect mon like they are required to in order to play competitive battling. Of course the system encourages cheating, it's retarded RNG.

Ideally everything should be available from the start for every player. When I play a Moba like Dota 2 I should be able to buy everything from the shop (if I have farmed enough gold)
When I play a fighting game I should have every special move available to me (provided I have the execution)
Pokemon is a special case because you have this preparation aspect to it, raising and breeding your own monsters that you eventually use in a competitive setting, basically you have to play singleplayer in order to get into multiplayer. That's usually seen as a barrier, but raising your Pokemon can be a fun experience and you have a greater attachment to them when using them in multiplayer. This process should be as streamlined as possible.
I feel like Pokemon was just never designed to be a proper competitive game. Some Pokemon were made to be weak and other strong, some are just straight up gimmicks. Competitive play was probably just envisioned to be a brawl between two kids favourites or in-game team, not for autistic manchildren to grind out optimized specimens to put into battle.

Of course it wasn't meant to be competitive. We know this with how GF sees IV/EVs. But people do treat it competitively, and the genre lends itself to min-maxing. And there's obviously no contention here, but making tedious breeding a way to maximize the stats for each and every one of your team members was a retarded idea.

If breeding had more depth and had meaning in something other than just battle though, it'd be a good concept that is executed well, instead of how it is now just being an awful chore that many people would rather not do.

Ok, serious question: I'm not denying Hyper Training is anything less than awesome and needd, but don't you think that having already all the necessary stuff to breed it will still be much quicker than raising a pokemon till lv 100? For istance, in X I could breed the average pokemon and having it battle ready at level 50 in half hour. It's good to have Hyper Training, especially for particular IV spreads and hidden power, but for me I don't think it will be that big of a life changer.

You've always been able to reset your EVs since gen 3 with berries. Gen 5 made it even easier with the hairdresser in Join Avenue. In Gen 6 you can get an instant reset from a single training bag.

Even in super training doesn't make a return, It's pretty likely well have another way to reset EVs.

Super Training is almost certainly coming back for SM is Amie is and if we're getting a new "Hyper Training." It's not as efficient as horde training but you can do it almost immediately.
