People often compared Ponyta to Keldeo, but then get called out as water types tend to be more bubbly and curvy and such, and Keldeo is a mythical which is designed partly to be cutesie
But Mudsdale and Rapidash can be directly compared - They are both horses, ground type tends to be less fanciful than fire type so the "the type tends to be all swishes and stuff" argument does not stand, and it looks like they even attempted to make it one of the more realistic Pokemon this generation
Rapidash to Mudsdale is a direct comparison that works
Will still get argued because honestly you'll always get that but it's still the most direct comparison of the change in designs we'll get
