Remove weaknesses to Rock, Steel, and Fighting. Ice is now only weak to Fire and only resists Ice.

This is STILL worse than Electric, lest you cry "unbalanced!", but this will absolutely save the typing.

And really, it makes sense, too. Very few Ice types are literally made of chunks of ice; most are just creatures that live in cold environments and/or attack with ice. A sensitivity to heat makes sense in any case, but "being prone to being shattered by impacts" only makes sense for ones that are literally hunks of ice, like Cryogonal, Vanilluxe, Regice, and Avalugg. Even Glalie is stated to be rock-like under its icy "armor."

This doesn't fix ice typing itself, which is the primary issue. It' a good attacking type, but right now, ice only resists itself which is worthless for defensive ice type pokemon. It needs more resistances since it's weak to 4 common attacking types, two of which have common priority attacks that crush the glass cannons you want ice type pokemon to be. Giving them more resistances will make defensive ice types more viable and improve the utility of offensive ones.

Ice doesn't need resists.

Fighting was awful pre-gen IV because there were little powerful Fighting-type moves and scarce Fighting mons that were actually powerful. Then comes gen IV and we got Close Combat and Drain Punch on Pokemon that could actually use them like Toxicroak and Infernape.

Ice is a phenomenal offensive type and the people who want to give it a resist when it's supposed to be frail are fucking idiots.

What Ice needs is MORE FAST AND OFFENSIVE POKEMON like Weavile. Weavile is one of the few Ice-types done right. The problem is that Game Freak keeps making slow, "bulky" Ice-types like fucking Avalugg. Ice is a fantastic offensive type; hell, STAB Ice Beam is part of what got Greninja banned. Anything that can abuse STAB Ice well like KyuB is destined for greatness.

Steel prior to gen V was only SE versus Rock and Ice, and yet it was still one of if not the best types due to being so bulky and being able to switch into Dragons. You didn't see people saying "oh Steel needs fixing lads" because Steel types has it good. Ice types just need to have more Pokemon that are fast attackers.

It's a similar problem Rock had. Too many weaknesses, too few good mons. Terrakion, Tyranitar, and Aerodactyl are some of the few good Rock types in the game. Rhyperior also works well because it has Solid Rock to buffer some of its weaknesses. Tyranitar is a really cool case, a Pokemon that has a gorillion weaknesses yet shows no sign of dropping from OU because of Sand Stream, its fuckhuge Attack stat enabling it to nuke anything with Stone Edge and Pursuit trap, and the SpDef boost in Sand. Rock is such a good offensive type and there's few mons that can abuse that.

Stop trying to give Ice more resistances. It doesn't need resistances. It needs more offensive Pokemon. That's all it needs for the type to be good. I'm so fucking sick of seeing people citing Ice as the worst type when spoiler: it's ___Bug

If Ice-types just were weak to Fire, even with just one resistance, a defensive Ice-type could actually function, see: Normal-types.

With that said, since >>27268819 will sadly never happen, what >>27269858 said is the basic TL;DR surefire solution: give us powerful Ice-types that are either stupidly bulky with huge move pools like Tyeanitar, or really fast like Weavile.

Ice and Rock are great offensive types and using Stone Edge and Ice Beam as coverage moves without the drawbacks of Ice/Rock weaknesses is a huge plus. So we need offensive Pokemon that aren't designed to take hits and instead dish them out.

There's a lot of stupidly bulky Ice types with great movepools. See: Regice, Articuno, Aurorus. Tyranitar is a special case because of the Sandstorm boost and being able to Pursuit trap meaning it doesn't automatically die to a Draco. Bulk won't solve anything.

The only two weather setters are Abomasnow and Aurorus, both shitty Pokemon. Buffing Hail won't do any good. Weather teams are already pretty rare in OU so it's not like running Mono-Ice with Hail will suddenly be viable.

The reason I don't dislike the idea of giving it resistances (unlike some in this thread) is because apart from seeing new ice types, I also want the old ones to get more viable, and not just be left with 4-5 decent-good ice pokemon while the rest stay shit forever and I wait for GF to make new offensive ones, which honestly doesn't seem like their thing.
Ice is my favorite type.

Also, buff Hail, or bring in a new Ice-type Terrain effect that affects Snow Cloak and Ice Body (so they don't have to make a dozen new snow abilities that only a few mons can use).
Let's call it "Snowy Terrain":
>raises Defense of Ice-types by 50%, just like how Sandstorm buffs Sp. Def, or how Electric Terrain buffs Electric moves
>Pokemon cannot be Burned while this is in effect, like how Electric Terrain affects Sleep

Make it teachable by TM (and available to non-Ice types), and even throw in an Ability or two (cough cough, Island Guardian). Suddenly with team support, defensive Ice-types are actually useful.

Rock (same reason as ground)
Bug (it just makes sense)
Psychic (Metaphysical/brainfreeze)
Ghost (Metaphysical)
Fairy (Metaphysical)
Fighting (Technically metaphysical)
Dark (Metaphysical)

Ice now dominates the metagame like steel does, STAB ice is now excuse enough to be used akin to being steel is enough to be used. (See: Duoblade being fucking UU)
