Anyway, things like man-made-mons (voltorb, muk, magnemite, etc.), any given ghost type, and pokemon designed to be weird and out of place are obvious exceptions to the "needs to look natural in its environment" thing because they're designed not to be natural. But pokemon like hitmonchan, vanilluxe, and Bewear sort of fall through the cracks, where they are meant to be. but don't really look the part. They're going theme first, animal second.
Which is fine by me personally, but it's the thing that causes a hundred "Seriously GF?" threads to pop up every new gen.
Anyway my point being, the "problem" with it's design isn't lack of detail, it's it's entire look. There's no way of combining the mascot theme with looking natural and alive, because those things directly contrast. Doesn't matter what coat of paint you give it.
