I think that the bug/parasite combo is the pokemon, because its been so long that neither can survive without the other. From birth, the insects are under fungal control, so for all intents and purposes, they are one.

I like it. As >>27311629 said, it's arbitrary, but would make sense as the parasite overtakes the host.

Similar to how people discuss wanting Inkay -> Malamar to flip primary/secondary types upon evolving. Makes no difference mechanics wise, but makes sense lore wise.
