>>27323723I know a lot of people can say this because we're Anonymous but I'm actually a character designer. Here's my thoughts when looking at Lucario:
>What is thisSo he's some sort of upright canine. His face shape and patterns are evocative of Anubis, so he might be some sort of psychopomp. His body markings and shapes look very slightly unnatural such as the spikes, the tires and bands on his shoulders and waist and face, so that suggests he MIGHT have some sort of transcendence over more natural animals with, say, shaggy fur.
>Why is it blueI can't find any reason for this other than that it's generally a protagonist. It could also be to differentiate him as a canine from other canine characters who are generally more realistically coloured (brown, red, black, etc.) The cream abdomen is a very good touch and breaks up the colour; could have done with some more maybe on the inner ears just for consistency but it's okay as is.
>Why does it have shortsThis is by far the strangest thing about Lucario, but again, thinking of the stripes and also tying into the Anubis-like headdress thing, it seems to subtly suggest that Lucario has some sort of origin not entirely grown from nature - perhaps he has a connection with a more technological or spiritual world.
>He looks moody as shitThis means he's either mind-controlled, misunderstood, a bad guy or takes his job really seriously, or any combination of those. Since I now know Lucario's general character, that works.
>Extra little details such as the fur and tail shapeThe small bits of messy fur show that he's still animalistic despite his otherwise pretty formal and orderly appearance. The tail is a little too stylized for me, in fact he doesn't even seem to need it. I think Lucario's problem (if he has any) is that he doesn't work mechanically (i.e. in the game) anywhere near as well as he works in terms of design.
